Andhra Pradesh Govt Transfers Key Roads in Guntur to GMC for Maintenance
December 25, 2025
The Andhra Pradesh Government has allowed the handover of several Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department roads within the Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) limits to the GMC for maintenance. This decision was issued by M.T. Krishna Babu, Special Chief Secretary to Transport, Roads and Buildings Department, through G.O. Rt. No. 663 on December 24, 2025. The move came after requests from the Guntur District Collector, GMC Commissioner, and recommendations from the Engineer-in-Chief (R&B), State Roads, Vijayawada.
The roads will be taken over by the GMC on an “as is where is” basis strictly for maintenance. Key roads included are parts of Madras–Calcutta Road, JKC College–Ponnekallu Road, and stretches linking M-C Road to G-P link road and Nidamarru via Kantheru. Important state highways like Guntur–Chirala Road, Guntur–Parchuru Road, Guntur–Amaravathi Road, and Guntur–Hanumanpalem Road are also handed over.
These roads cover several kilometres and are vital traffic corridors within the city. The government directed the Engineer-in-Chief (R&B), the Guntur District Collector, and the GMC Commissioner to take necessary steps to implement the order. Puli Srinivasulu, Commissioner of GMC, told The Hindu on December 25, 2025, that this move will help streamline road maintenance and improve urban infrastructure in Guntur city.
