On the night of December 24, a school teacher was shot dead inside the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) campus, police confirmed on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Rao Danish Ali, a teacher at ABK Union High School, linked to AMU. According to AMU Proctor Mohammad Waseem Ali, Rao Danish Ali was walking near the Kennedy Auditorium with two colleagues when some masked men stopped him. "They fired at him from point-blank range after briefly talking to him," the proctor told PTI. Rao Danish Ali collapsed and was rushed to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The shooting occurred after 9 p.m. Rao Danish Ali had just gone to the AMU canteen for tea, a daily routine. Although CCTV cameras near the canteen recorded the incident, the footage was unclear due to darkness and fog, the proctor added. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Neeraj Kumar led the police response, issuing an alert to trace the attackers. Police have spoken to the victim's family and colleagues to understand the motive and are examining CCTV footage from surrounding areas to track the suspects' movements.
