Severe Cold Wave Bites Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan; Rajasthan’s Fatehpur Hits 1.6°C

Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan continue to suffer from an intense cold wave. Fatehpur in Rajasthan’s Sikar district was the coldest place on December 24 night, hitting 1.6 degrees Celsius. Nagaur followed with 1.9 degrees and Lunkaransar in Bikaner recorded 3.5 degrees Celsius.
In Punjab, Amritsar’s temperature dropped to 5.7 degrees Celsius. Ludhiana and Patiala recorded lows of 6.4 degrees each. Pathankot hit 6.7 degrees, Bathinda 5.6, and Gurdaspur 5.5 degrees Celsius. Chandigarh, the capital of Punjab and Haryana, had a minimum of 6.9 degrees Celsius.
Haryana faced chilly weather with Ambala at 7.9 degrees, Hisar at 5.6 degrees, and Karnal at 6.8 degrees Celsius. Narnaul reached a low of 5 degrees, while Rohtak, Bhiwani, and Sirsa recorded 6.8, 6, and 6.2 degrees Celsius respectively.
Rajasthan’s Dausa saw 4.4 degrees Celsius, Churu 4.9 degrees, and Alwar 5 degrees. Vanasthali in Tonk was 5.2 degrees, Pali and Jhunjhunu at 5.7 degrees each. Pilani had 5.8 degrees, Ajmer 6.5. Faridkot was the coldest on December 25 with 4.3 degrees Celsius.
Jaipur experienced chilly winds dropping temperatures to 8.8 degrees, Jaisalmer 10.9 degrees, and Pratapgarh 12.4 degrees Celsius.
Residents warmed themselves around bonfires and sipped hot tea to battle the cold. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said minimum temperatures in northwest India will fall by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next two days. They warned of cold wave conditions in isolated areas of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand from December 25 to 27.
IMD advised people to take care during the cold, especially at night and early morning. They said temperatures in other parts of the country will stay nearly the same for the next week.
