A cold wave gripped Bihar on Friday, December 26, 2025, with temperatures dropping below 10°C in several districts. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for dense to very dense fog and cold day conditions across the state, urging people to stay cautious.
Aurangabad and Sabour in Bhagalpur were the coldest spots at 7.4°C each. Gayaji recorded 7.6°C, Bhagalpur and Sheikhpura were at 8.9°C, Valmiki Nagar in West Champaran and Dehri stood at 9°C each, Jehanabad at 9.3°C, and Saharsa at 9.5°C.
The IMD warned of dense fog in East Champaran, West Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Muzaffarpur, Vaishali, Patna, Bhojpur, Buxar, Kaimur, Rohtas, Aurangabad, Arwal, and Jehanabad. Reduced visibility is already reported, which may disrupt road, rail, and air traffic. Authorities have been asked to stay alert while people have been advised to take precautions, especially during early mornings, said an IMD official from Patna.
In Punjab and Haryana, the cold wave continued with minimum temperatures above normal for the season. Narnaul in Punjab recorded the lowest at 5.5°C. Amritsar measured 8.7°C, Ludhiana 8.4°C, Patiala 7.7°C, Pathankot 6.2°C, Bathinda 8.2°C, Gurdaspur 6°C, and Faridkot 8.5°C. Chandigarh saw 8.8°C.
In Haryana, Ambala had a low of 8.9°C, Hisar 6.1°C, Karnal 8°C, Rohtak 7.8°C, Bhiwani 7.5°C, and Sirsa 8.6°C. Despite the chill, temperatures remained above the season's normal in many places, said the local meteorological departments.
