Tamil Nadu Assembly to Begin 2026 Session on January 20 with Governor’s Address
December 26, 2025
The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly will open its first session of 2026 on January 20 at 9:30 a.m., Speaker M. Appavu announced on December 26, 2025. The session will begin with the customary Governor’s address. Speaker Appavu told reporters at the Secretariat-cum-Assembly complex in Fort St. George that after the Governor speaks, the House’s Business Advisory Committee will decide how long the session will last. He confirmed that Assembly customs will remain unchanged. Addressing a question about the January 6, 2025 session, when Governor R.N. Ravi walked out without reading the Governor’s address due to an alleged "insult" to the national anthem, Appavu said he hopes "the Governor would safeguard the dignity of the House."
