December 28, 2025
Gangster Vinay Tyagi died on Saturday at a hospital in Rishikesh. He was shot three days earlier while police were taking him to court. Police said Tyagi was moving from Roorkee jail to Laksar court on Wednesday when two bikers fired at the police vehicle near the Laksar flyover. Tyagi was hit by three bullets. Two police officers were also injured in the shootout. Tyagi was admitted to AIIMS-Rishikesh in critical condition and died that Saturday morning. Police arrested the two attackers, Sunny Yadav and Ajay, on Thursday. They confessed to killing Tyagi due to a personal rivalry. Haridwar Senior SP Pramendra Singh Dobhal said both men were booked for murder after Tyagi's death. Tyagi's sister, Seema Tyagi, accused the police of being involved and demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe. She said Tyagi suspected a conspiracy and named a doctor and a contractor from Dehradun. Seema claimed they sent Tyagi to jail on false charges and forced his wife to transfer property worth crores to them. The Tyagi Mahasabha called the death suspicious and alleged police helped the killers. Praveen Tyagi of the Mahasabha said, "The police got the criminals to kill Tyagi to avoid a police encounter." Vinay Tyagi was from Khaikhedi village in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh. He faced 57 serious criminal cases including murder, extortion, robbery, and fraud across Delhi, UP, and Uttarakhand. His wife is a local political leader in UP with past election runs. Police said one attacker, Sunny Yadav, once worked for Tyagi and was out on parole at the time of shooting.
