In the early hours of Sunday, December 28, 2025, three fishermen from Rameswaram were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy mid-sea near Neduntheevu. The Navy seized their trawler on allegations of poaching. Police reported that the caught trawler was one among 335 mechanised boats that left Mandapam fishing jetty on Saturday. The fishermen – A. Amostin, 25, and S. John Das, 38, both from Thangachimadam, and Paraloga Sebastian, 26, from Mandapam – were detained after their boat was intercepted. Initial reports said the arrest was made on charges of poaching by the Sri Lankan Navy.
