Kerala Youth Congress Urges Action on 50% Youth-Women Reservation After Satheesan’s Udaipur Plenary Call
December 28, 2025
Kerala Youth Congress president O.J. Janeesh welcomed Opposition Leader V.D. Satheesan’s announcement to implement Udaipur Congress plenary decisions in Kerala. Janeesh said the party must now act on reserving 50% of seats for youth and women in both organizational and parliamentary structures. He stated, “This decision has not been fully implemented in many States. The Youth Congress has consistently demanded that it be put into practice in Kerala, especially in local body elections.” Janeesh pointed out that recent local body polls proved the plan's relevance, adding, “Young candidates have broken the so-called Left fortresses and emerged victorious. That itself validates the Udaipur resolution.” On the Mattathur controversy, Janeesh blamed Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for reacting too quickly without checking facts. He said, “Whenever there is news of people allegedly moving to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), no one is happier than the Chief Minister—perhaps not even Union Home Minister Amit Shah.” Janeesh denied that any Congress members in Mattathur joined or voted for the BJP. He clarified, “Not a single Congress member has joined the BJP, nor has any Congress member voted for the BJP. It was BJP members who voted in favour of an Independent candidate supported by the Congress in the president and vice-president elections.” Janeesh explained disciplinary action was taken because party members failed to resign after accepting BJP support, as per KPCC rules. He said, “The party has taken the right action at the right time. There is no basis for other controversies being manufactured around this issue.” Launching a counter-attack on CPI(M), Janeesh said BJP could rule Kerala even without MLAs if people vote for the Left. He accused Chief Minister Vijayan of hypocrisy, citing his support for BJP-linked initiatives and congratulating the BJP’s lone mayor. Janeesh added, “It is to cover up this embarrassment that the Chief Minister is trying to divert attention by blowing up a local issue and pointing fingers at the Congress.” He warned, “The Congress is the only party fighting the Sangh Parivar across the country. If the Chief Minister believes he can weaken that fight by exploiting the alleged immaturity of local leaders, it will boomerang.”
