Spaniards Stage Wild Food Fight Festival 'Els Enfarinats' with Eggs, Flour, and Fireworks
December 28, 2025
Every year, the town of Ibi in Spain bursts into a lively food fight during the Els Enfarinats festival. Participants wear military-style costumes and stage a mock coup using flour, eggs, and firecrackers. The playful 'eggers' roam the streets asking locals for "taxes," which are donations to charity. Those who refuse may get splattered with eggs or flour! This unique festival, held on December 28 to mark Spain's Day of the Innocents (similar to April Fools' Day), is over 200 years old. The entire town ends up covered in flour and broken eggshells, creating a colorful and chaotic scene.
