Bengaluru is gearing up for massive New Year celebrations with nearly 20,000 police deployed to maintain law and order. Home Minister G. Parameshwara said on Sunday that over 10 lakh people are expected to attend this year, up from eight lakh last year. The police have identified busy spots like M.G. Road, Brigade Road, Indiranagar, Koramangala, and Neeladri Road as high-footfall zones. For the first time, a Heat Map system will track crowd density. Red marks heavy crowds, yellow for moderate, and green for low, all monitored from a command centre. A QR code-based system will give real-time traffic, ambulance, and emergency updates. Out of the 20,000 deployed, 14,000 will manage law and order, 2,500 are traffic police, supported by 88 KSRP platoons, 21 CAR units, 266 Hoysala patrol vehicles, 250 Cobra vehicles, and 400 traffic wardens. Civil Defence and Home Guards are also in service. Safety measures include water jets for crowd control, watch towers, 180 focus lights, vehicle checks, and access controls at key locations. To ensure safe returns, transport will be available at eight spots where taxis are scarce late at night. 250 temporary CCTV cameras, safety shelters, ambulances, and drone surveillance are also in place. Special attention is on women’s safety and crowd management. Operators of bars, restaurants, malls, and entertainment venues have been issued strict guidelines. AI-enabled facial recognition cameras will spot criminals and alert police in real time. Security agencies are on high alert for terror threats with enhanced intelligence. Drunk driving checks have intensified, and 2,854 cases were registered in the last five days. Home Minister Parameshwara assured robust measures to keep Bengaluru safe during the vibrant celebrations.
