FBI Dismantles $250 Million Minnesota Food Aid Fraud, Probe Continues
December 29, 2025
FBI Director Kash Patel revealed that the FBI has uncovered a massive $250 million fraud scheme in Minnesota related to federal food aid meant for vulnerable children during COVID. The investigation exposed fake vendors, shell companies, and large-scale money laundering connected to the Feeding Our Future network. Patel warned, "The FBI believes this is just the tip of a very large iceberg. We will continue to follow the money and protect children, and this investigation very much remains ongoing." He also added that some suspects might face immigration actions, including denaturalization and deportation.
The scandal came to light sharply with a video by YouTuber Nick Shirley. He showed a so-called learning center in Minnesota that received $4 million in state funding but had no real activity. The center’s signboard even misspelled "learning" as "learing." When confronted, a woman guarding the center yelled at Shirley to leave, fearing immigration agents. This clip caused a big stir online.
Vice President JD Vance praised Shirley’s work, calling the fraud a "microcosm of the immigration fraud in our system." He said, "Politicians like it because they get power. Welfare cheats like it because they get rich. But it’s a zero sum game, and they’re stealing both money and political power from Minnesotans."
Minnesota Republican Rep. Tom Emmer demanded answers from Governor Tim Walz, saying, "$4 million of hard-earned tax dollars going to an education center that can’t even spell learning correctly. Care to explain this one, Tim Walz?"
Elon Musk, former Dogecoin chief, also criticized the fraud, warning Americans that they "will be horrified at what your tax money is doing." The FBI’s probe is ongoing, and it aims to clean up federal aid programs and protect taxpayers.
