In a significant move, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) is taking over the management of the multi-level car parking facility at Chennai airport, which is expected to bring relief to passengers. The decision follows a contractor's termination notice regarding the Aero Hub, leading to discussions in New Delhi. The AAI board has decided to temporarily control the parking facility, while food and retail outlets can continue with AAI. Passengers have expressed discontent with the current arrangement of lugging baggage to the second floor of the Aero Hub for taxi pick-up. Despite AAI providing buggy services, passengers have been demanding the reinstatement of the old cab pick-up point near the T1 Domestic Terminal. To address these concerns, AAI plans to have two cab pick-up points - one in the Aero Hub and another at the previous location near the T1 Terminal's National Flag point, which will be accessible upon completion of plaza construction. The plaza, intended for passenger relaxation, is nearing completion opposite the T1 domestic terminal, offering passengers a more convenient taxi pick-up location. Meanwhile, AAI has initiated fresh bidding processes for the management of parking and cab-pick up services.
