The State government will soon reopen the Aadhaar service centre in Dharwad. Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu G.R.J. said the closure happened because the tender period ended. "Steps have been taken to start Aadhaar service centers to serve the citizens of the twin cities and one such centre started working in Hubballi today," she said. A new centre at Keshwapur in Hubballi has reopened after completing fresh tender procedures. The Dharwad centre stopped temporarily but will restart soon after the new tender process is complete. The administration has already submitted a proposal to reopen it. The newly inaugurated Aadhaar Seva-UIDAI centre at Jola Complex, Hubballi, now offers a range of Aadhaar services. These include new enrolments, name and address corrections, mobile linking, biometric and photo updates. Earlier, eight such centres operated in the State. Now, after reopening this centre, services have expanded to 22 major locations. Before the closure, a centre in Dharwad served hundreds daily, including people from nearby taluks. Congress leader Deepak Chinchore criticized moving the centre to Hubballi, stating it causes hardship for Dharwad residents. Protestors from Dharwad Dhwani rallied to demand reopening of the Dharwad centre. They fear that services at post offices and private centres are costly and slow. Demonstrators warned of agitation if their demand is not met. Leaders like Ishwar Shivalli and Basavaraj Jadhav joined the protest. The Dharwad centre’s abrupt closure on Sunday caused public outcry, but officials assure it will reopen soon.
