Security Forces Recover 27 Bombs, Arms in Manipur's Imphal East Amid Ethnic Violence
January 2, 2026
Security forces recovered 27 bombs and neutralised them in Imphal East district of Manipur, police said on Friday, January 2, 2026. The country-made bombs were found on Thursday near Monglham village during a special operation, a senior police officer said. In a separate raid, three arms and ammunition were seized from Langdum Nungjengbi area on Wednesday. These efforts come amid ongoing search operations since ethnic violence broke out in Manipur two years ago. The clashes between Meiteis and Kuki-Zo groups have claimed more than 260 lives and left thousands homeless since May 2023. After Chief Minister N Biren Singh stepped down, the Centre imposed President’s rule in the state. The State Assembly, which is elected until 2027, has been suspended.
