January 2, 2026
A fire tore through the busy Le Constellation bar in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, on New Year’s, killing about 40 and injuring roughly 115. The first victim named is Emanuele Galeppini, a young Italian golfer. The Italian Golf Federation called him “a young athlete who embodied passion and authentic values.” Authorities are still working to identify all victims and said it might take days or weeks. Witnesses described panic as people broke windows to escape. Many injured, some badly burnt, fled to the streets. Police said the cause is unknown but assured it was not an attack. Families wait anxiously for news while hundreds gathered in the freezing cold to mourn, lighting candles and laying flowers for the victims.
