A tragic incident shook Pakkiripalayam village near Chengam town in Tiruvannamalai on Friday. T. Sakthivel, 55, a farmer and former ward councillor linked to the DMK, and his 40-year-old wife, S. Amirtham, were found burned to death inside their hut on farmland. The hut was locked from the outside. Police said the fire happened past midnight, likely set by unknown people who locked the door before lighting the fire. Neighbors alerted police, who arrived around 7 a.m. The couple's bodies were sent to Government Medical College Hospital in Tiruvannamalai for autopsy. Sakthivel was previously married to Tamilisai, with whom he had three sons now living in Bengaluru. Amirtham was separated from her husband Sivakumar, who also lives in the village with his three children. The couple had married after meeting at Sakthivel's leased paddy farm and lived together in the hut. Tiruvannamalai Superintendent of Police M. Sudhakar formed special teams to find the suspects. An investigation is ongoing.
