Communist Party of India (Marxist) Kozhikode district secretary M. Mehaboob has raised alarms over the draft electoral roll released under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). Speaking to the media on January 2, he said the revision was rushed and unscientific. A complaint was sent to the Election Commission asking for quick intervention. Verification revealed serious issues. Many people were excluded without valid reasons. Some living persons were wrongly marked as deceased, and others were shown absent. Students and workers living outside the state or abroad were also deleted despite valid documents. Mr. Mehaboob warned, "Not only those removed, but many still listed might not be able to vote." The draft list split voters arbitrarily, ignoring their actual residences. These problems appear in all 13 assembly constituencies in Kozhikode district. There are also errors in polling booth assignments. "Members of the same household are placed in different booths," he said. Many voters don't know their polling stations. Notices asked voters to attend hearings over minor technical errors, causing confusion and stress. Officials seem helpless. "The District Collector, acting as Election Officer, can't fix these errors," Mehaboob noted. He urged the Election Commission to intervene immediately. He suggested door-to-door checks by special teams instead of hearings to resolve issues quickly and protect voters' rights.
