January 3, 2026
A man named Pramod Kumar Raj was arrested in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, on January 2, 2026. He allegedly created and shared fake AI-generated videos and audio clips of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu. Mr. Raj, from Bhagwanpur in the Bochaha police area, misused their names, images, and voices on social media. Police said the goal was to mislead people and harm the reputation of India's highest constitutional offices. A police statement said, "The objective behind the AI-generated content was to mislead the public, undermine the dignity, prestige and trust associated with the highest constitutional offices of the country, create distrust towards democratic institutions, and adversely affect social harmony and law and order." A special police team arrested Mr. Raj and seized his mobile phone. Officials warned that such fake content could spread anti-national feelings, rumors, and social unrest. A case has been filed and investigations are ongoing. The police are checking the accused's criminal history.
