Two urban primary health centres (UPHCs) in Coimbatore are currently awaiting certification under the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) program. Out of the 32 UPHCs in the city, 12 have already received this certification. The certification process involves inspections to ensure that the facilities meet the required quality standards. The certification, once obtained, is valid for three years, after which a revaluation is necessary to maintain the standards. The NQAS certification is a crucial step in enhancing the quality of care provided at public health centres. It focuses on various aspects, including record-keeping, infrastructure, patient care, and service efficiency. The city corporation is actively working towards extending this certification to all UPHCs in the city. The goal is to achieve NQAS certification for all UPHCs by the end of the financial year, with upcoming inspections scheduled for Seeranaickenpalayam and Kalveerampalayam UPHCs.
