Katie Miller Sparks Controversy with US Flag on Greenland; Denmark Warns of Territorial Respect
January 4, 2026
Katie Miller, former staff of Dogecoin and wife of Trump aide Stephen Miller, ignited a global controversy. She shared a photo showing Greenland painted with US flag colors with the caption "Soon." This hinted at a possible US move on Greenland, echoing Trump's past interest and tough stance similar to Venezuela. Denmark's ambassador to the US, Jesper Møller Sørensen, responded firmly, emphasizing the strong ties between the US and Denmark. He said, "Just a friendly reminder about the US and the Kingdom of Denmark: We are close allies and should continue to work together as such. US security is also Greenland’s and Denmark’s security. Greenland is already part of NATO." Møller Sørensen added that Denmark plans to spend $13.7 billion in 2025 on Arctic security to protect their shared interests. He warned, "We expect full respect for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Denmark." Donald Trump has shown ongoing interest in Greenland, saying in May, "I don’t rule it out. I don’t say I’m going to do it, but I don’t rule out anything. No, not there. We need Greenland very badly." To show his commitment, Trump named Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry as special envoy to Greenland. Landry praised Trump's hard line on Venezuela’s Nicolas Maduro and the fight against illegal drugs, tweeting, "Thank you @realDonaldTrump for holding individuals like Maduro accountable." The US-Denmark friendship faces a test as Greenland remains in the spotlight.
