Tumakuru forest officials found 11 dead monkeys, including two langurs, in the Devarayanadurga-Durgadahalli area over two days. The carcasses were scattered within 200 to 500 meters. Officials arrived on Friday evening and discovered more dead monkeys on Saturday morning. A post-mortem showed rice in the oesophagus and intestines, suggesting possible food poisoning. A senior forest official noted, "The mouth and neck portions of the animals appeared bluish in colour, further raising suspicion of poisoning, allegedly due to consumption of decayed leftover food." Disease was ruled out for now. Samples were sent to Bengaluru labs and the Forensic Science Laboratory for detailed tests. Authorities have increased surveillance and will take action based on lab reports expected soon.
