January 5, 2026
Nikitha Rao Godishala, a 27-year-old woman from Secunderabad, Telangana, was found dead with stab wounds in an apartment in Maryland City, USA, on January 3. Her ex-boyfriend, 26-year-old Arjun Sharma, had filed a missing person complaint on January 2, saying he last saw her on December 31. Police later discovered Sharma had left the US and traveled to India.
Friends of Godishala raised alarms on Facebook, asking people in Columbia, Maryland, to help find her. Police searched Sharma’s apartment based on the complaint and found her body. Investigators believe she was killed shortly after 7 p.m. on December 31.
An arrest warrant charges Sharma with first- and second-degree murder. Authorities are working with US federal agencies to locate him. Interpol will issue a red notice to alert law enforcement in nearly 200 countries, including India.
Godishala was a Data and Strategy Analyst at Vheda Health in Maryland since February 2025. She received the company’s "All-In Award" for performance. She had previous roles at Management Sciences for Health and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Before moving to the US, she worked as a Clinical Pharmacist intern and Clinical Data Specialist in India.
She studied pharmacy at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) and earned a master's in Health Information Technology at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
The Indian Embassy said it is helping the family and coordinating with local police. On January 5, the embassy confirmed it is providing all possible consular support as they follow up on the case.
