Tripura Closes All Schools for 5 Days Due to Freezing Cold Wave
January 5, 2026
Tripura government has decided to close all schools for five days starting Tuesday, January 6, 2026. A notification on January 5 announced that all government, aided, and private schools will remain shut until January 10 due to extreme freezing weather. Classes will start again from January 12, as January 11 is a Sunday. The closure also applies to schools in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), which had already closed its educational institutions because of the cold. The cold wave is disrupting normal life and business in the state. For example, the yearly Agartala Book Fair at the international exhibition ground is facing low attendance. Meanwhile, winter clothing shops are seeing many buyers. This step comes a day after Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha mentioned the possibility of a short winter vacation for students.
