Delhi Air Quality Stays Poor With AQI at 293; Pollution to Continue for Six Days

Delhi's air quality stayed in the 'poor' category on Tuesday morning, January 6, 2026. The average Air Quality Index (AQI) was 293, according to the Central Pollution Control Board's Sameer app. Chandni Chowk had the worst reading at 352, which falls in the 'very poor' category. Out of all stations, 20 recorded 'very poor' air quality, 15 were in 'poor,' and 2 had 'moderate' air quality. The CPCB defines AQI levels as: 0-50 good, 51-100 satisfactory, 101-200 moderate, 201-300 poor, 301-400 very poor, and 401-500 severe. On Monday, January 5, the 24-hour average AQI was 244, also 'poor.' The Air Quality Early Warning System predicts Delhi's air will remain between poor and very poor for the next six days. Meanwhile, some parts of Delhi experienced shallow fog. The minimum temperature was 7.6 degrees Celsius, slightly above the seasonal average. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 18 degrees Celsius. Relative humidity hit 100% in some city areas this morning, as per the India Meteorological Department. Temperatures at several stations such as Safdarjung, Lodhi Road, Ridge, and Ayanagar recorded 7.6 degrees Celsius, while Palam saw a cooler 6.5 degrees Celsius.
