Kuwait Declares January 18 Public Holiday for Isra and Miraj Observance
January 6, 2026
The Civil Service Commission of Kuwait announced a public holiday on Sunday, January 18, 1447 AH, to mark Isra and Miraj. Work will be suspended across all ministries, government agencies, authorities, and public institutions for the day. Normal operations will resume on Monday, January 19. Agencies with special operational needs will continue essential services as directed by their authorities, ensuring public requirements are met during the holiday. Officials stated these measures balance the need for service with the religious observance of Isra and Miraj. Institutions with critical duties will set their own holiday schedules to maintain uninterrupted services. Isra and Miraj is an important Islamic event commemorating the Prophet Muhammad's night journey from Mecca to Jerusalem (Isra) and his ascension to heaven (Miraj). Muslims use this time for spiritual reflection, prayers, and religious gatherings to honor the event's historic and spiritual significance.
