Police Commissioner S.D. Sharanappa inaugurated the 42nd anniversary of the District Science Centre in Kalaburagi on Tuesday. He said science and technology must improve people’s mindset and daily life. "The Science Centre provides an excellent platform for students to develop scientific awareness alongside formal education," he said. Sharanappa urged students to visit the centre during holidays with family and friends to learn more about science and technology. "We have advanced to a stage where we must also understand emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence. Scientific temper and curiosity are essential for shaping a progressive society," he added. Sujatha Teradal, Head of Computer Science at PDA Engineering College, gave a special lecture on AI. She explained that AI can simplify future life and has many uses in healthcare, weather forecasting, policing, automobiles, defence, and traffic management. However, she warned, "Overdependence on AI can lead to erosion of basic human knowledge and critical thinking. AI should be used judiciously and within limits, as excessive reliance may eventually lead to misuse." K.M. Sunil, officer at the Science Centre, spoke about programmes that promote hands-on learning and nurture student curiosity. Former District Science Officer Lakshmi Lakshminarayana and many students also attended the event.
