DHAKA: Bangladesh's biggest Islamist party, Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), has accused the Muhammad Yunus-led interim government of favoring a "particular political party" just before the parliamentary elections. JeI leader Shafiqur Rahman said on Monday that they received complaints from several areas claiming government officials support one party. JeI is now a key rival to BNP after having partnered with them from 2001 to 2006. Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Awami League is barred from political activities under Bangladesh's anti-terrorism law. JeI said the political environment is not suitable for holding free and fair elections.
