Family Demands International Arrest Warrant for Suspect in Nikitha Godishala Murder Case

Nikitha Godishala, a 27-year-old Indian woman found dead in Maryland, U.S., was reportedly killed by her ex-roommate Arjun Sharma. Nikitha was discovered with stab wounds in Columbia, Maryland. Sharma, 26, is accused of murder and has fled to India. The U.S. police have issued an arrest warrant against him for first and second-degree murder. Nikitha’s family insists on issuing an international arrest warrant for Sharma, calling for strict punishment. A family member said, "He (Arjun Sharma) should be arrested by issuing an international arrest warrant and punished sternly." Nikitha’s parents are deeply heartbroken. Her mother is a heart patient. Efforts are underway to repatriate Nikitha’s body to Hyderabad. Union Coal Minister G. Kishan Reddy confirmed speaking with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar about the repatriation. According to Anand Godishala, Nikitha’s father, Sharma had taken multiple loans and planned to return to India. He had called Nikitha under the pretense of repaying debts before allegedly killing her. The Indian Embassy in Washington DC is providing consular assistance and stays in touch with the family. Nikitha had been living in the U.S. for four years and worked as a Data and Strategy Analyst at Vheda Health after completing her MS degree.
