Telangana saw a sharp drop in temperatures after a brief rise at the start of the New Year. The coldest spot was Tiryani in Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, with a minimum temperature of 6.3℃ recorded between January 6 and 7, 2026. Eleven districts across the state recorded temperatures below 10℃. Other cold areas included Bela in Adilabad at 7.4℃ and Kohir in Sangareddy at 7.6℃. Even the cities felt the cold, with Rangareddy’s Moinabad at 7.9℃, Uppal in Medchal Malkajgiri at 9.6℃, and Marredpally in Hyderabad at 11.3℃. Earlier, between January 2 and 3, 2026, the state had a minimum temperature of 12.6℃. Data from Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS) confirms these numbers and shows the freezing grip of winter is tightening. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast warns that isolated pockets of Telangana will experience minimum temperatures 2℃ to 3℃ below normal over the next two days. Residents should brace for more chills.
