Bengaluru Police Register Cases in Rising Traffic Fine Payment Link Fraud
January 7, 2026
Bengaluru’s Whitefield police registered two fraud cases on January 4, involving fake traffic fine payment links stealing money from victims’ bank accounts. Anurag Kumar Pandey, a 27-year-old software engineer, received a link from an unknown number. Assuming it was from traffic police, he clicked it and later found ₹1,16,738 withdrawn from his credit card. Though he did not share the OTP received, the transaction went through. Similarly, Tarani Kumar Sharma, a 38-year-old private firm employee, lost ₹1,61,270 from her credit card linked to the same bank. Both complaints have been filed, and police are tracing the perpetrators using transaction details. Bengaluru Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Karthik Reddy, warned, “The traffic police do not send notices or demand payments from individuals via their phones.” He urged people to avoid clicking on random links to stay safe.
