BJP Worker Alleges Disrobing During Arrest in Hubballi; Police Deny and Launch Probe
January 7, 2026
A controversy has erupted in Karnataka after a BJP woman worker alleged she was disrobed during arrest in Hubballi. The incident reportedly happened on January 5 near Keshwapur Police Station after complaints linked to a clash on January 1 during SIR mapping. A video of the event went viral on social media, causing widespread outrage.
Police Commissioner N. Shashikumar denied the disrobing claim on January 7. He said the woman, Sujata alias Vinayalaxmi Handi, attacked woman constables and removed her own clothes inside the police van. He added that locals helped the constables bring clothes to cover her. Sujata also reportedly attacked four constables and bit one in the stomach. Three cases of assault have been registered against her based on complaints by locals. She is now in judicial custody.
BJP MLA Mahesh Tenginakai strongly criticized the police, accusing them of inhuman behavior under pressure from Congress councillor Suvarna Kallakuntla. He demanded immediate suspension of all officers involved and called for a full inquiry. The police continue their investigation into the incident.
