The Beypore Destination Management Committee (DMC) has officially started operations to boost tourism in the Beypore Assembly constituency. This government-formed body will plan and coordinate tourism activities in a scientific way. Tourism Minister and local MLA P.A. Mohamed Riyas chairs the committee. In the first meeting this week, Mr. Riyas said the committee will work for wider publicity of Beypore's tourism spots across the state and country. "Special activities will be organised, with the cooperation of educational institutions in the respective areas, to ensure cleanliness at tourism centres in the constituency. Awareness programmes and cleanliness campaigns involving students will also be conducted under the aegis of the DMC,” he said. Maintaining cleanliness is a top priority as it is crucial for tourism centres. The committee also discussed the need for coordination between departments and active involvement of local self-government bodies for tourism development. Revenue from tourism sites will be routed to the DMC. This money will help quickly plan and execute development work and upkeep of basic infrastructure like roads, toilets, and signboards. Scientific waste management will also be enforced. DMC executive officer and District Tourism Promotion Council secretary T. Nikhil Das and DMC vice chairperson O. Bhakthavalsalan were present at the meeting. The committee aims to make Beypore a responsible and sustainable major tourist destination.
