Manvir Singh, a 27-year-old Indian-Canadian Uber driver, faces sexual assault charges after allegedly attacking a 20-year-old woman during a ride in Lethbridge, Alberta, on November 9 last year. The victim booked an UberX ride home from Chinook Regional Hospital. After a brief stop downtown, Singh allegedly drove her to a secluded spot in the Lethbridge River Valley where the assault happened. She was later dropped home. Police said the ride to the river valley and home wasn't recorded in the Uber app. Singh left Canada after the incident. Police seized his vehicle and issued a warrant for his arrest. He returned on December 27, 2025, was caught at Vancouver International Airport, and taken to Lethbridge. Singh appeared in court on January 5, 2026, and was released on bail. Conditions include no contact with the victim, staying within Alberta, and surrendering his passport. He will appear again on January 9. Separately, Gurvinder Pannu, a 32-year-old former Uber driver in Edmonton, was charged with sexually assaulting a female passenger on June 30, 2024. The woman booked a ride downtown. During the trip in Pannu’s dark 2023 Nissan Rogue, he stopped and assaulted her. After a long probe, Pannu was arrested in August 2024. He was released with conditions, including no work for ride-share or taxi services and no contact with the victim.
