Dubai to Plant 20,000 Trees Celebrating 20 Years of Sheikh Mohammed’s Leadership
January 8, 2026
Dubai is launching a major tree planting drive to celebrate 20 years of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s leadership. Dubai Municipality and KHDA will plant 20,000 trees across the city in parks, neighbourhoods, and schools. Locations include Al Barsha South, Al Barsha Pond Park, Nakheel Park, Quranic Garden, and several others. The goal is to make the city greener, improve air quality, and create inviting spaces.
Schools and community groups will join the effort. KHDA will coordinate with educational institutions to decide on tree types and numbers. Dubai Municipality will provide saplings to ensure smooth planting. This will help teach students about environmental care and teamwork.
Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, said, "The project honours the transformative development journey led by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed." He added this supports the 'Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033' and enhances Dubai’s global sustainability image.
Aisha Abdulla Miran, Director-General of KHDA, said, "This initiative reflects a broader commitment to leaving a lasting legacy and shows how every tree planted contributes to Dubai’s global role in innovation and sustainable urban growth."
The tree-planting effort complements Dubai’s Green Project aiming to expand green spaces and increase greenery per person. It blends nature with the emirate’s unique architecture to create healthy and beautiful urban spaces. Through this, Dubai fights climate change, raises air quality, and promotes community participation in sustainability. The message is clear: protecting the environment is a shared responsibility across the city.
