ED and I-PAC Move Calcutta HC Over Raids at Pratik Jain's Office and Home in Coal Scam Probe
January 9, 2026
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) and political consultancy firm I-PAC on Thursday, January 8, 2026, moved the Calcutta High Court. They sought intervention over the ED's searches at the home and office of I-PAC chief Pratik Jain. The ED alleged that the raids face interference and need to proceed unhindered. The searches relate to a money laundering probe linked to a multi-crore coal pilferage scam, according to official sources.
Justice Suvra Ghosh received the matter and is likely to hear it on Friday, January 9. Dramatically, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee appeared at Jain's south Kolkata residence and his Salt Lake office during the ongoing ED raids. She alleged that the ED tried to seize internal TMC documents, hard disks, and sensitive election strategy data.
I-PAC, apart from political consulting for the Trinamool Congress (TMC), manages the party’s IT and media cells. The ED accused CM Banerjee of entering Jain’s home and removing key evidence including documents and electronic devices. They also claimed she, along with aides and police, forcibly took documents and digital evidence from the I-PAC office.
The ED urged the Calcutta High Court to allow its investigation without any hindrance or obstruction.
