Calcutta High Court Adjourns ED Raid Case on I-PAC Till Jan 14 After Courtroom Chaos
January 10, 2026
The Calcutta High Court on January 9, 2026, paused hearings in the Enforcement Directorate (ED) cases linked to recent raids on Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) in Kolkata. The session faced chaos and noise in court, forcing a halt. The court, led by Justice Suvra Ghosh, asked unrelated persons to leave, but the unrest continued. The hearing is now set for January 14. The ED conducted raids on January 8 at I-PAC’s office and the home of its chief, Prateek Jain, connected to a money laundering probe. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee appeared at the raid site, accusing the Central agency of seizing sensitive party strategy documents ahead of state Assembly elections. I-PAC advises her party, Trinamool Congress, on election strategy. The ED charged that Banerjee’s arrival blocked the search and alleged she removed "evidence including physical documents and electronic devices." An ED statement said, "Proceedings were being conducted in a peaceful and professional manner, till the arrival of West Bengal Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee along with large number of police officials." The agency sought court help, citing obstruction. Later, ED counsel sought intervention from a Bench led by Acting Chief Justice, but the court refused to step in. The case will resume on January 14.
