Three Militants Arrested in Manipur; Arms Recovered Amid Ethnic Violence
January 10, 2026
Security forces arrested three militants linked to banned outfits in Manipur's valley districts, police said on January 10, 2026. An active member of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (Noyon) was caught in the Kongpal Chingangbam area of Imphal East district on January 8. He is accused of extortion, and ten demand notices were found with him.
On the same day, a 50-year-old member of the outlawed Prepak (Pro) was arrested in Amboikhongnangkhong, Imphal West district. The next day, security personnel recovered arms and ammunition in Ikop Pat, Thoubal district.
From the hill ranges of Natum Ching and Sanasabi in Imphal East, they found a country-made AK rifle, a hand grenade, and bombs on January 9.
Security forces have been on high alert and conducting search operations since ethnic clashes erupted in Manipur in May 2023. These fights have killed over 260 people and displaced thousands of others between Meiteis and Kuki-Zo groups.
Following the unrest, the Centre imposed President's rule after Chief Minister N. Biren Singh resigned last year. The State Assembly has been kept under suspended animation until its term ends in 2027.
