A tragic accident happened near Perumbulipakkam village, close to Walajah town on the Chennai-Bengaluru Highway (NH 48). A 21-year-old van driver, S. Deepak Babu from Poonamallee, Chennai, was killed when his vehicle crashed into a tourist bus. Six women devotees on the bus were injured. The devotees were returning from the Amman temple in Melmaruvathur village near Chengalpattu. The trouble began when a sedan car hit Babu’s van from behind. He lost control, jumped into the wrong lane, and then collided with the tourist bus. The police arrived quickly. Babu died at the spot. The six injured women got medical help. The damaged vehicles were cleared to restore traffic flow. The Avalur police registered a case. The car driver, Anbu Mahesh, 37, from Chennai, was arrested for rash driving. Police continue to investigate the crash. This sad event highlights the dangers on the busy highway and the consequences of careless driving.
