Telangana Lokayukta probes massive property registration fraud in Bhu Bharati system
January 10, 2026
The Telangana Lokayukta has started a detailed inquiry into a major fraud in property registration under the state's Bhu Bharati system. Officials were ordered to report on the case by the Chief Secretary, CCLA, Commissioner of Stamps, Mee Seva Commissioner, and others. Early findings show a gang used fake payment challans through third-party apps to avoid stamp duty charges. In one shocking case in Jangaon district, criminals siphoned off ₹8,55,577 from just 10 challans in a single day. Evidence suggests the fraud involved editing the challan amounts before payment. The scam may involve some technical staff from the CCLA. Jangaon police registered a case on January 7, 2026, after a complaint by local tahsildar Indrapally Hussain, and launched investigations. A key suspect is the owner of an internet centre in Yadadri who altered challans and helped run fake transactions. Officials say the problem may have started during the previous Dharani slot booking system under the former BRS government, revealing deep loopholes. So far, four people linked to the scam have been arrested. Police are probing a network involving Mee Seva operators, private internet centres, revenue employees, and cybercriminals. Sources say the fraudsters hacked the Bhu Bharati database, also connected to a mobile app used by the revenue department. When landowners sought services at Mee Seva centres, operators colluded with cyber gangs to tamper with transaction amounts and produce false challans with lower payment figures.
