Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister Ponguru Narayana announced plans to plant 50,000 trees in Nellore Assembly constituency. He aims to make the area the district’s 'green lung space.' After planting a sapling himself, Narayana said about 2,000 trees, including flowering and fruit-bearing types, will be planted at five-metre intervals across each division. This approach takes inspiration from Chandigarh’s dense tree plantations to create natural shade. The minister reiterated the government's goal to develop Nellore as a Smart City. However, he ruled out building an Outer Ring Road (ORR) for now. He cited financial constraints and pointed out the ongoing expansion of the Chennai–Kolkata National Highway into a six-lane road with flyovers. This upgrade is expected to ease city traffic significantly. Narayana called the ORR proposal by Nellore Urban Development Authority chairman K. Srinivasulu Reddy “practically difficult and unnecessary.” He mentioned that Trunk Road traffic has already improved after the mini bypass and will improve further with the highway upgrade. Additionally, Narayana inaugurated the renovated flyover at Atmakur bus stand. He recalled that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu laid its foundation stone back in 1995.
