Bhairav Battalions Make Army Day Parade Debut with High-Tech Warfare
January 11, 2026
The Indian Army’s new Bhairav Battalions will take part in the Army Day Parade for the first time on January 15 in Jaipur. Two units will march: Southern Command’s 2 Bhairav Battalion, called the ‘Desert Falcons’, and South Western Command’s 4 Bhairav Battalion. The 2 Bhairav Battalion’s war cry is “Raja Ramchandra ki Jai.” On January 11, the Army shared a video on its official X handle featuring these battalions to highlight their modern capabilities. A senior officer said, “We are creating a pool of over one lakh drone operatives across the force. These operatives are capable of handling drones and employing them in real operations to target bases and formations inside the enemy territory.” The Bhairav Battalions were formed based on lessons from global fights and India’s own missions, including Operation Sindoor. They are fast, offensive units trained to do special forces’ tasks at different levels depending on needs. So far, 15 such battalions exist along borders. The Army plans to raise about 25 soon. Their role is to fill the gap between Para Special Forces and regular infantry by carrying out special operations from close to deep enemy zones. The officer added, “Modern warfare is changing at a very rapid pace. Today’s conflicts are hybrid in nature, and forces must be fully equipped with modern technology to meet these challenges.” The Bhairav Battalions are part of the Army’s force makeover to match new tech, fresh ideas, and changing operational needs. The Army has also started Rudra Brigades — mixed teams of infantry, tanks, artillery, special forces, drones, and support units. Other corps like Artillery and Armoured are getting upgraded with new gear and battlefield tech to boost future combat power.
