The Government of Andhra Pradesh has approved a major greenfield investment by Websol Renewable Private Limited (WRPL) to build an 8 GW solar manufacturing facility. This facility includes 4 GW solar cells and 4 GW solar modules. It will be set up in the Naidupeta multi-purpose special economic zone in Tirupati district. The total investment is ₹3,538 crore. The project will be built in two phases over 120 acres. Commercial production is planned from July 2027 to July 2028. Additionally, the government has allotted 300 acres for a captive solar power plant. This plant will supply renewable power to run the manufacturing unit. With this development, Naidupeta and the southern Tamil Nadu industrial corridor will become key solar manufacturing hubs in India. Other big names like Premier Energies, Tata Power, and Voltsun are also setting up large solar plants in the region. Sohan Lal Agarwal, CMD of Websol Energy Systems Limited, said, "The GoAP’s clearance allows Websol to make a meaningful contribution to the State’s growth with its expansion plans. The supportive industrial ecosystem in Andhra Pradesh provides a strong manufacturing platform for executing the project and the company’s growth strategy." IT & HRD Minister Nara Lokesh also praised the project, calling it "yet another strong endorsement of Andhra Pradesh’s position as India’s most competitive destination for clean-energy manufacturing."
