Telangana to Launch International Wedding Destinations by Rivers and Reservoirs
January 12, 2026
Telangana Tourism Department is set to develop attractive spots along rivers, reservoirs, and natural areas as international wedding destinations. Minister Jupally Krishna Rao announced that Nagarjunasagar, Somasila, and Baswapur will be part of this plan. The projects will start this year. Anantagiri, which already has a ₹2,950 crore tourism plan, is also included. These places stand out for their water bodies and peaceful nature, ideal for celebrations. Tourism Department Managing Director Kranthi Valluru said the chosen areas have scenic views near water, perfect for special occasions. The government will develop these locations but invites private players to invest in hotels, tent cities, and accommodation. A current example is ‘The Cove by Freakouts’ on an island in Laknavaram lake, Mulugu. The venue offers a 200-seat banquet hall and cottages. Company Director Vamsidhar Kothala said the place hosts birthdays, engagements, and get-togethers. Soon, a custom floating deck will be added for events. At the South Indian Wedding Planners Congress, wedding experts pitched forts, rivers, lakes, forests, hills, and luxury hotels as wedding spots. Manisha Mehta of Hyderabad’s Gala Events noted the rise in intercultural and international weddings in the city. She pointed out Hyderabad's diverse landscapes, excellent infrastructure, and easy access via the Outer Ring Road make it perfect for weddings. Ms. Mehta proposed building a wedding city near Rajiv Gandhi International Airport with themed packages like palaces, royal, and sustainable weddings.
