January 12, 2026
Swami Vivekananda lived for only 39 years but left a legacy lasting 150 years, said Shithi Kanthananda, assistant secretary at Ramakrishna Math. He spoke at a National Youth Day event on Monday in Vijayawada, organized by the Department of Youth Services. The day marks Swami Vivekananda’s 163rd birth anniversary. Swami Kanthananda asked youth to follow Vivekananda’s teachings and develop their personalities. He urged everyone to make meditation a habit and strengthen their willpower. "Instead of using the internet for entertainment, one should use it as a platform to acquire new skills," he said. S.V.D.S. Ramakrishna, Deputy Director of Youth Services, added that across 26 districts in the state, essay writing, quizzes, and debates were held. Winners received certificates and mementos. He also said 80 people from Andhra Pradesh are participating in the National Youth Festival in New Delhi. Appreciation certificates were presented to winners from Krishna and NTR districts. The event saw participation from District Education Officer Madhubhushan, Skill Development Officer Srinivasa Rao, Red Cross members, and students from colleges, National Service Scheme, and National Cadet Corps.
