Toll collection on the Vengalam-Ramanattukara stretch of National Highway-66 in Kozhikode district will begin soon. This follows the official notification from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Operators have completed trial runs for the toll booths at Pantheerankavu. Officials said electronic payments using FASTag will be encouraged. There will be separate gates for heavy vehicles, light motor vehicles, and goods carriers. Toll collection will start once the toll rates are published in the media. According to the tariff structure, motorists without FASTag will pay a 25% surcharge for UPI payments. Cash payments will be charged double the toll fee. Local residents within 20 km will get special passes priced at ₹340 for light motor vehicles. These passes allow unlimited crossings during their validity. Other motorists can buy an annual FASTag for ₹3,000, permitting 200 crossings across India. A partial toll fee will be charged on return journeys within 24 hours. Commercial vehicle owners registered in Kozhikode district will get a 50% discount, but national permit vehicles will not. After the tariff announcement, some vehicle operators and locals raised concerns. They worry about the "hefty toll" before the NH widening project is fully complete. They also said promises to reduce tolls significantly for locals were broken. The six-laning work on the 28 km Vengalam-Ramanattukara stretch of the Kozhikode bypass finished last year. The project cost over ₹1,900 crore. This included bridges, flyovers, and approach roads.
