In Guntur district, Kothapet police recovered a bag containing gold jewellery worth nearly ₹5 lakh and returned it to a woman passenger quickly. The woman, travelling with her small children, boarded an auto rickshaw at Pattabhipuram to reach Chilakaluripet. She got off near Gandhi Park but accidentally left the bag with gold ornaments in the vehicle. Realising her loss, she searched nearby but couldn’t find the auto. She then went to Kothapet Police Station and lodged a complaint with Circle Inspector Veerayya Chowdary on January 12. The CI acted quickly, ordering crime staff to begin a search immediately. Constables Jani Basha, Srinivasa Rao, Degala Koteswara Rao, and Anil Kumar checked CCTV footage near Gandhi Park. They tracked the autorickshaw’s movement and identified the vehicle using traffic police registration details. The driver was traced, and the gold jewellery bag was recovered safely. CI Veerayya Chowdary later gave the recovered jewellery to the woman at the police station. The operation was completed within three hours, showcasing efficient police work in Guntur.
