In Manipur, security forces arrested three extremists connected to banned groups after a bomb attack on a fuel outlet in Bishnupur district on January 8. The suspects were caught from Imphal West and Kakching districts. The police identified 35-year-old Hikam Manichandra Singh from the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) as the prime suspect. A senior police officer said, "We have identified a few accomplices and are trying to catch them." Two persons on a two-wheeler threw the bomb at the fuel station. No injuries were reported, but the station was damaged. Fuel dealers believe the attack and earlier incidents are linked to extortion by banned groups. The Manipur Petroleum Dealers’ Fraternity protested by closing outlets from January 10. The outlets reopened at noon on January 13. The fraternity petitioned Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, demanding better security for fuel outlets and their staff.
