Court Orders FIR Against Ex-Officers in 2024 Sambhal Violence Case
January 14, 2026
On January 9, 2026, a court in Chandausi, Sambhal district, ordered filing an FIR against former Sambhal Circle Officer Anuj Chaudhary, ex-Kotwali in-charge Anuj Tomar, and 10 unidentified police personnel. This follows a plea by Yameen, whose son Alam was shot near Shahi Jama Masjid on November 24, 2024, during unrest where Alam was selling papad. The case was first filed on February 6, 2025. The Sambhal violence erupted on the second day of the Shahi Jama Mosque survey, with protesters clashing against police. Stone-pelting and alleged police firing occurred, with five people killed and many hurt. UP police denied using gunfire and said they applied 'mild force.' The Supreme Court has paused trial proceedings in connection with the mosque survey. Chief Judicial Magistrate Vibhanshu Sudhir presided over the order to register the FIR against the accused officers and personnel.
