Sport fans can sign up starting Wednesday for a chance to buy tickets to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. Tickets begin at $28 (£20.80). Registration opens at 07:00 local time (15:00 GMT) and runs until mid-March. Fans enter a random ticket draw for all Olympic events. Winners will get an email with a time slot to buy tickets in April. One million tickets will be priced at $28, and about one-third will cost less than $100 (£74.41). Casey Wasserman, chairman of LA 2028, said, "These Games belong to everyone. These Games have to be affordable and inclusive." This ticket plan comes after public criticism of high prices for the 2026 men's football World Cup tickets. LA officials said their focus is on affordability and accessibility, hoping fans worldwide can attend. For comparison, tickets for the 2024 Paris Olympics started at $27.95 (£20). Residents in Los Angeles and Oklahoma City—both Olympic sites—will get a special early purchase window. The 2028 Games are the first US Olympics since Atlanta 1996. LA has hosted twice before, in 1932 and 1984, and will use its existing venues. On Tuesday, hundreds of Olympians gathered at the LA Memorial Coliseum to light the Olympic cauldron. The Coliseum will co-host the opening ceremony and track and field events. To enter the draw, fans register with name, email, and zip code. A random time slot to buy tickets is assigned in April. Earlier slots offer better chances but do not guarantee tickets. The first ticket sales run from April 9 to 19. Tickets include admission to the opening and closing ceremonies. Most events will be in Los Angeles and southern California, with canoeing and softball in Oklahoma. LA28 chief Allison Katz-Mayfield said the ticket draw is "the fairest way to ensure that the broadest number of people can get access to tickets and that no one is advantaged or disadvantaged." She added, "No matter when you go in, whether you're the first person in or the last person in, you have the same opportunity." Registration closes on March 18. Registering early does not improve chances.
