Karnataka Information Commission Demands Replacement Over Low-Quality Computers Supplied by KEONICS
January 14, 2026
The Karnataka Information Commission is in dispute with KEONICS over 17 computers supplied that do not meet official specifications. The commission had ordered “all-in-one” computers and desktops, paying ₹30.15 lakh. However, it says these 17 units lack required features, especially cameras needed for online hearings.
In its letter to KEONICS’ managing director, the commission states, "As per the order of the Union government, money had been paid for high quality hybrid model VC systems. However, it has been found that 17 computers that do not match the prescribed quality and that do not adhere to the specifications in the work orders have been supplied."
An inspection last week confirmed that five all-in-one computers and 11 desktops met order standards, but 17 all-in-one computers did not. This tender was issued by the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms.
Commission sources added, "The commission hears cases online. Without cameras, how can the cases be heard online? We need replacement of the computers with those that adhere to the specifications."
Meanwhile, Raghunandan Murthy, KEONICS’ MD, said he had not yet received any communication from the commission. He stated, "If we do not have the specification that is sought, we ask them to give the specification based on which tender will be floated. We do not tell them what to procure. We have also written to them."
